What Are My Tooth Replacement Options?

Whether you need one replacement tooth or a whole mouthful of them, you have several different options. Each option has its pros and cons and comes at different price points. However, since dental health is linked to whole-body health and emotional well-being, investing in your smile is money well-spent. Determining the right option for you depends on several factors, and it starts by understanding your options.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are an excellent option for people who need one or more replacement teeth. They are permanent implants which use strong screws to anchor teeth into the jawbone. They mimic the stability and function of natural teeth. However, the process can involve bone grafts, tooth removal, and more, making it a more time-consuming and expensive process.

Dentures

Traditional dentures are removable and rest on top of your gums. Implant-supported dentures use implants to anchor the dentures, giving them more stability and making them less likely to slip. They also allow people to replace multiple teeth at a time.

Bridges

Bridges are a time-tested solution to missing teeth. They are false teeth that replace gaps in teeth. They can be implanted, placed on crowns, or removable. Bridges generally require two healthy teeth on either side of the bridge, which are used to anchor the bridge. Crowns can be a replacement for healthy teeth, but they should still have a firm base in the jawbone.

Crowns

If your tooth needs to be fixed, not replaced, a crown may be the right decision. Crowns can replace chipped, cracked, or decaying teeth. They can be secured onto teeth or used in combination with root canals when there is decay or infection to or in the roots.
